Set Up Ping Identity for Censys SAML Authentication

Follow this article to enable SSO with Ping Identity as your Identity Provider for Censys authentication.

This is 1 part of a 2 part process to configure SAML-based authentication for Censys users on your Censys team.

It is recommended that you follow this article first before you configure SAML authentication on the Censys side. After completing the setup with Ping Identity, a SAML metadata URL is generated that you can paste into the Censys team authentication page to populate the required fields there automatically.

Add Censys as an SSO-enabled application

  1. Click the Applications nav item in the top navigation bar.

  2. In the My Applications tab, ensure the SAML page is open. Click the Add Application and select New SAML Application from the list.

  3. Provide application details. Suggested details include:

    • An Application Name of Censys.

    • An Application Description of Internet scan and enrichment data for security investigations and attack surface management.

    • Category set to Information Technology.

    • Application Icon is available here.

    • Click Continue to Next Step.

  4. On the Application Configuration page, ensure the Protocol Version selected is SAML v 2.0.

    For the Upload Metadata section, click Or use URL and paste the metadata URL from the SP Details section of your Censys team’s authentication page.

    Press the Tab key on your keyboard and the required fields automatically fill in.

    Click the Continue to Next Step button.

  5. On the SSO Attribute Mapping step, map Ping Identity attributes to the attributes that Censys expects.

    • Click the Add New Attribute button.

    • Map the Identity Bridge First Name attribute to the Application Attribute FirstName.

    • Map the Identity Bridge Last Name attribute to the Application Attribute LastName.

    • If usernames in your system are not email addresses, then repeat the process to map Email to Email.

    • Click Continue to Next Step.

  6. On the next step, select the users/groups that need access to Censys, then click Continue to Next Step.

  7. On the Review Setup step, review the configuration details.

    Note

    Copy the value shown for the SAML Metadata URL. You can use this to shorten the setup on the Censys authentication page.

  8. Click Finish.

Now, configure SAML authentication on the Censys team authentication page.
